Wise Dental supports the Medicare CDBS.
The Child Dental Benefits Schedule is a new Government scheme for eligible children aged 2-7 years to receive $1000 of dental benefits. This initiative has replaced the Medicare Teen Dental Vouchers that ceased in December 2013. The benefit cap of $1000.00 is available for a two year period.
The $1000.00 dental cap provides for basic dental treatment such as examinations, radiographs, hygiene maintenance, restorations and extractions. The dental services provided for under this scheme will be bulk billed and you will have no additional out of pocket expense.
We will provide full detailed treatment plans for all treatment required so you will always be aware of what is being received.
On making an appointment with us please advise if you are eligible under this scheme and provide us with your Medicare number and your child’s date of birth. You must bring with you to your appointment your child’s Medicare card and the letter from the Family Assistance office.
If you would like more information please contact our friendly reception team on 02 9216 7676 or alternatively you can visit the Department of Human Services website: www.humanservices.gov.au/childdental or contact the Medicare general enquiries line on 132 011.
Please bring with you to your appointment:
We bulk bill eligible children under the Medicare Child Dental Benefits scheme. To ensure we are able to process your bulk billing please make sure you bring with you:
- The patient’s Medicare card
- Your Medicare letter if you have it
- The parent or guardian who the letter is addressed to must accompany the child to their first appointment (under the Medicare policy)

What to expect:
While every appointment is different to personally suit our individual patients’ needs, here is a general overview of what will happen during your first few appointments:
First our reception team will review your pre-treatment form.
You will see a dentist and hygienist.
In the dental surgery, getting rid of any pain is our first priority. Then your dentist will perform a complete examination of your teeth and gums, including an oral screening to assess your occlusion (bite) and address any cosmetic issues. Low dose digital x-rays will be taken if necessary as well as digital intra-oral photos (photos of inside your mouth) to help you understand any areas of concern. An oral cancer screening will also be performed. Your dentist will consult with you to address any concerns, needs or desires you may have. You will be provided with a personalised treatment plan that takes into consideration your needs, time constraints and financial ability.
Your hygienist will address any areas of concern including teeth sensitivity and bleeding gums. They will perform an intra-oral examination to assess your level of bacterial build up and measure the depth of any ‘pockets’ that can form between your teeth and gums (due to gum disease). They will also perform a professional clean known as a scale and polish and provide any necessary treatments such as fissure sealants or fluoride. Your general oral health and condition will be discussed as well as dietary advice and brushing and cleaning techniques to increase your level of education.
